PowerBoating Courses
NSW General Powerboat Course
At Northern Beaches Boating, we offer professional powerboating courses for beginners looking to obtain their Powerboating Certificate or enhance their boating skills. Set against the stunning backdrop of Pittwater, our courses provide a hands-on, immersive learning experience. With small group sizes (max 4 participants), you’ll get personalized instruction in a relaxed, enjoyable environment.
Choose between our Theory & Practical Course or Practical-Only Course — both offering the perfect blend of learning and leisure. Plus, enjoy a peaceful break at one of the secluded beaches, where you can take in the natural beauty while sharpening your skills.
Powerboating Course Options
Theory & Practical Course
This comprehensive course covers both practical boating skills and theoretical knowledge. Upon successful completion, you’ll receive the Australian Sailing Start Powerboating Certificate, which allows you to apply for a NSW General Boat Licence without an additional theory test.
Practical-Only Course
This practical-only course focuses solely on practical skills in this half-day boating session, designed for those who wish to improve boat handling and receive logbook sign-off. The theory course will still need to be completed separately with either Northern Beaches Boating or Service NSW if you’d like to obtain your license.

Qualifications You Will Receive
Australian Sailing Start Powerboating Certificate: Upon completing the course, you’ll receive this certificate, which you can take to a NSW Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) office to apply for your NSW General Boat Licence (valid for up to one year).

Age Requirement
All participants must be 18 years or older to join our charters. This ensures that everyone onboard is legally and physically capable of handling the potential challenges of boating.
Pre-Departure Briefings
Every guest receives a comprehensive safety briefing video before departure at time of booking. This includes instructions on the operation of the vessel, use of safety equipment and emergency procedures to ensure everyone is well-prepared.
Mandatory Risk Assessment
Before embarking on any charter, guests must complete an information and disclosure form as well as signing our waiver. This process allows us to understand any medical issues or concerns you may have and helps our guests understand the risks and requirements associated with boating activities.
Health Restrictions
Our charters are not recommended for pregnant women due to the potential risks and physical demands associated with being on the water and embarking / disembarking.
Emergency Contact Information
We ask that all guests provide emergency contact details. This information is kept in our system and with the captain for quick communication in case of any unforeseen incidents during the charter.
Safety Gear Compliance
Our vessels are fully equipped with life jackets, first aid kits, and emergency communication devices to ensure maximum safety. Guests undertaking power boating courses are required to wear a life jacket at all times.

Are pets allowed on the charters?
Pets are generally not allowed on our charters to ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers. Exceptions may be made for service animals; please contact us in advance to discuss.
Do you provide food and drinks on the charters?
Our charter provide grazing boards as an optional add-on. However we do not provide any refreshments or alcohol on any of our charters. However, you may BYO alcohol. We have limited storage.
Can I bring my own equipment, such as snorkeling or fishing gears?
Any form of Fishing gear is not permitted aboard our vessel. Please inform us in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements to accommodate your activities.
Is there parking available near the departure points?
Yes, there is parking available at Bay View Boat Ramp near Roland Reserve, Bayview.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made at least 7 days in advance will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 7 days of departure date, full payment will be taken.
How experienced are your captains?
Our captains are highly experienced, licensed, and knowledgeable about the local waters. They ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests.
How early should I arrive before the charter departure time?
We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time to ensure a smooth check-in process and to receive any necessary pre-departure instructions from our crew.
